KUCHING (Feb 22): A delegation led by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan visited the Norwegian city of Bergen on Friday.
They paid a courtesy call on Bergen’s Mayor Marit Warncke in a move to enhance bilateral relations and explore future collaboration in sustainable urban development and renewable energy.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the visit was centered on deepening ties between Sarawak and Bergen, with the Sarawak delegation eager to learn from Bergen’s innovative urban planning and sustainability practices.
The city has garnered international recognition for its ability to balance economic development with environmental preservation, making it a prime example for Sarawak’s own development goals.
Discussions during the visit focused on mutual economic strengths in key sectors such as oil and gas, forestry, agriculture, fisheries, and energy.
Through strengthening its relationship with Bergen and Norway, Sarawak seeks to speed up its transition to renewable energy while leveraging Bergen’s expertise in sustainable urban planning and economic sectors.
This visit also aims to strengthen cooperation between Sarawak and Norway in environmental and economic initiatives, supporting Sarawak’s vision for sustainable development and green energy.
