MIRI (Dec 13): Several mega projects in Lawas are expected to begin construction next year, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
He said the projects include the construction of the new Lawas airport, the Northern coastal highway, and the deep sea port at Pulau Sari.
“We are hoping that these mega projects will begin construction early next year as the approval has been granted and the contractors had been appointed,” he told reporters after a pre-Christmas and 2025 New Year gathering at Lawas Indoor Stadium on Thursday.
The Second Natural Resources and Urban Development Minister added that these projects are funded by both the state and federal governments.
On the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR), he said that the first package of the project stretches from Kampung Gelugus in Lawas to Long Lopeng, which covers approximately 77 kilometres, and is expected to be completed by November 2026.
“Other ongoing projects include the construction of roads at the border between Ba’ Kelalan in Sarawak and Indonesia, as well as the development of road networks from Mengkalap to Long Tengoa in Lawas,” he added.
Also present at the gathering was Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong.
